The County Class Cruiser, HMAS Shropshire entering Sydney harbour showing her port forward view. The British Admiralty had offered Shropshire as a replacement for HMAS Canberra, which was lost on 9 August 1942 during the Battle of Savo Island in the Philippines. Shropshire was commissioned into the RAN on 25 June 1943 and saw extensive service in New Guinea and Borneo waters as well as in the Pacific Ocean. Shropshire was paid off in 1949 and in 1954 she was sold for scrap iron in the UK.

Sister Cherry Wilson, Royal Australian Navy Nursing Service (RANNS) was one of the 250 servicemen and women chosen to represent the RAN, AIF and RAAF at the Victory parade in London on 8 June, 1946. The Australian Victory Contingent sailed to the UK on HMAS Shropshire.
