Billy Bear Defends Australia.

During World War Two the Billy Bear cartoon strips were a regular feature in The Argus (Melbourne) newspaper's weekend supplement. Just weeks before the great carrier Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942, Billy's creator, Dick Ovenden, imagined the gallant Australian Bear taking on a Japanese aircraft carrier and then making it home safely in his stricken aircraft with the aid of the Americans.
